The Most Infamous Washington Serial Murders

On November 30, police arrest Gary Leon Ridgway as a suspect in the Green River Killer case. The case was one of the nation's worst unsolved serial murder cases, involving the murders of at least 49 young women beginning in 1982. People that live in the area often talk about the strange happenings near the river. Is the area haunted? That is a good question, but when you have such violence associated with a particular area it is more than likely a definate good candidate for a haunting.

I remember watching this case very closely when it was on our local TV stations. Gary Ridgway sat in that courtroom so silent with absolutely no remorse and no emotions what so ever. It was like he had no soul. His eyes were blank and dark, I believe if you had to pronounce any person that was demonic in nature this man would fit the definition.

The case opened with the discovery of the body of Debra Lynn Bonner, age 23, on August 12, 1982. A previous Green River murder was that of Wendy Lee Coffield, age 16, whose body was found on July 15, 1982. DNA evidence ties Ridgway not to these two murders, but to those of Opal Mills, 16; Marcia Chapman, 31; and Carol Christensen, 21. Opal Mills was found on the bank of the Green River near Kent on August 15, 1982, the same day the bodies of Marcia Chapman and Cynthia Hinds, 17, were found in the water, weighed down by rocks. The body of Carol Christensen was found in woods outside Maple Valley in May 1983. Circumstantial evidence links Ridgway to a number of the other murders as well.

In a lengthy confession given to prosecutors and read in court, Ridgway stated that he wanted to kill as many prostitutes as he could. "I killed so many women I have a hard time keeping them straight," he said (Seattle Post-Intelligencer). Some of the victims remained unidentified.

It is so sad that any of these women had to die especially by a  sadistic killer like Gary Ridgeway. I wanted to list these women to honor their memories. It truly amazes me that many of these women had no one come forward to identify them. That so disturbing to me.

Freaky story. Took them 20 years to find him. Evil hides among us that is for sure. Yes, sad that a few of the bodies were never identified, nor any families came forward, I believe it was three or four and suprisingly they were all under 18 years old. Where are their parents? How sad!
